The station serves over 110,000 commuters each year and is an important linking station on the Northern network. A large part of the project included the removal of the current ticket office and a complete design and rebuild (including and extension to the existing building’s footprint)to allow a brand new ticket office to be built.
An accessible toilet for all has also been installed, with further accessibility works being carried out in the coming months. Staff accommodation was also constructed behind the station building and a brand new comms system installed throughout the station.
There is also future scope for the local commuters to use the community facilities created behind the station, as well as an option for a retail offering to be on site as well. As an addition to the overall project we also installed a tool shed as a gift to the local ‘Friends of Hattersley Station’ to help them to continue to maintain the surrounding grounds and gardens of the station.
